Abstract
ITALIANO: Il contributo affronta il rapporto tra fonti scritte e archeologiche alla luce del volume di Chris Wickham, "The Donkey and the Boat". Attraverso l’esame di alcuni casi studi italiani vengono evidenziate le problematiche interpretative legati ai dati archeologici, al loro uso e alla conseguente ricaduta sulla lettura storica. / ENGLISH: The contribution addresses the relationship between written and archaeological sources in light of Chris Wickham’s book, "The Donkey and the Boat". Through the examination of several Italian case studies, interpretative issues related to archaeological data, their use, and the resulting impact on historical interpretation are highlighted.
