Abstract

[IT] Nelle Collationes (ca. 1136), Pietro Abelardo affida al filosofo una critica severa non solo alla straordinaria frequenza con la quale i pontefici emanano a getto continuo nuove decretali, ma pure alla prassi di concedere dispense che, egli ritiene, rendono lecito ciò che prima era illecito e viceversa, così violando la lex naturae. Se è comprensibile e documentato il primo rilievo, più difficile è comprendere i motivi che ispirano il secondo. Si può supporre che esso scaturisse dalla protesta di Abelardo avverso la cacciata di Eloisa e delle consorelle dal monastero di Argenteuil. Operazione, questa, condotta dal potente abate di St. Denis, Sugero, sulla base di documenti verosimilmente spuri, ma comunque ritenuti affidabili dall’assemblea convocata (1129) a St. Germain-des-Prés, senza tener conto delle leggi canoniche che tutelavano, da molto tempo, le ragioni delle monache. In his Collationes (ca. 1136), Peter Abelard entrusts to the philosopher two severe criticisms concerning first the impressive bulk of decretals uninterruptedly issued by the popes and secondarily the custom of conceding dispensations that – he assumes – make lecit what before was illegal and viceversa, so infringing the lex naturae. If the first argument is understable and really documented, is more difficult to explain the second one. One can suppose that it was suggested by Abelard’s indignation against the expulsion of Eloisa and her sisters away from the monastery of Argenteuil, declared by the synod of St. Germain-des-Prés (1129).
