Abstract

ITALIANO: In questo articolo si vuole proporre un approccio nuovo al problema della fine delle ville romane e le trasformazioni che in esse si verificarono tra III e VIII secolo, a partire da una prospettiva ‘quantitativa’ per effettuare analisi statistiche sulle fasi di riuso. In questo modo è stato possibile sintetizzare i principali trends relativi ai vari secoli tra il III e il VII/VIII secolo e formulare alcune riflessioni per nuovi approfondimenti sulle fasi ‘post-classiche’ delle ville in relazione a: complessità dei contesti; rapporto tra interpretazioni e cronologie; indicatori di potere. / ENGLISH: The aim of this article is to propose a new approach to a ‘traditional’ archaeological theme, such as the end of the Roman villas and the transformations that occurred between the 3rd and the 8th century. This work has been set in a ‘quantitative’ perspective, through the use of large sample of the investigated Roman villas in all Italy to perform statistical analysis concerning the reuses. In this way it was possible to summarize the main trends for the various ages between the 3 rd and the 7 th-8th century. Finally, some considerations were made about new insights on the ‘post-classical’ phases of the villas in relation to: complexity of the contexts; relationships between interpretations and chronologies; indicators of power.
