Abstract
ITALIANO: Le ricerche sulle comunità rurali e sui commons sono state finora condotte separatamente per distinti ambiti cronologici. Quelli di età romana sono stati studiati dall’antichistica in una prospettiva storico-giuridica, ma sono stati trascurati dall’archeologia, concentrata prevalentemente sulle ville e sulla loro fine. Dal IX-X secolo all’età moderna sono stati indagati prevalentemente dagli storici delle fonti scritte. E tra i due periodi rimane un buco per l’età longobarda sulla quale disponiamo solo di frammentarie informazioni. È peraltro possibile una ricerca diacronica e interdisciplinare che ricostruisca le caratteristiche, le modalità di utilizzo e l’evoluzione nel tempo dei commons, individuando le integrazioni tra i diversi elementi dei paesaggi produttivi nei quali hanno agito le comunità del passato. / ENGLISH: Research on rural communities and commons has so far been conducted separately for distinct chronological periods. Those of the Roman age have been studied by historians from a juridical perspective, but have been neglected by archaeologists, mainly focused on the villas and their end. From the 9th-10th centuries to the modern age they have been mainly investigated by historians on the basis of written sources. And between the two periods a knowledge gap remains for the Lombard age. However, a diachronic and interdisciplinary research is possible, to reconstruct the characteristics, methods of use and evolution over time of the commons, identifying the inteactions between the different elements of the productive landscapes in which the communities of the past lived.
