Abstract
ITALIANO: Una prima guida agile e complessiva dedicata alle cruciali trasformazioni del popolamento sullo storico sito dell’antica Cupra Maritima in località Civita, oggi compreso nel Parco Archeologico ed interessato dagli scavi dell’Università di Napoli – L’Orientale, oltre che nel suo territorio, dalle ultime fasi dell’antica città, sino al cruciale confronto fra Bizantini e Longobardi, al definitivo abbandono del sito (secc. VIII-IX), mentre sorge la nuova pieve di S. Basso, ed il popolamento si concentra su nuovi siti in altura, Castel S. Andrea a soprattutto la Curtis/Villa de Mariano, poi Castellum /castrum de Marano, ove il popolamento è poi rimasto sino al suo ritorno a valle lungo il mare, a partire dal XIX secolo. / ENGLISH: A first comprehensive and agile guide dedicated to the crucial transformations of the settlement on the historic site of ancient Cupra Maritima at Civita (Marche, Ascoli Piceno), now included in Cupra Marittima’s Archaeological Park, and affected by the excavations of the University of Naples - L'Orientale, as well as in its territory. The last phases of the ancient city are analyzed, up to the crucial confrontation between Byzantines and Lombards, the final abandonment of the site (8th-9th centuries), while the new parish church of S. Basso rises, and the population concentrates on new sites on high ground, Castel S. Andrea and especially the Curtis/Villa de Mariano, later Castellum /castrum de Mariano/Marano. There the population then remained until its return to the valley along the sea, starting in the 19th century.
