Abstract

ITALIANO: Il contributo affronta il tema del lusso (negli abiti, nelle doti e nei banchetti) sentito prima di tutto come un problema teologico e in seguito come un problema legato all’ideologia comunale del “buon governo” e del decus civitatis (decoro della città). Questo fatto determina la produzione di una abbondante legislazione suntuaria, che si può considerare il risultato della collaborazione tra governo comunale, giuristi e predicatori, questi ultimi molto attivi nel Quattrocento in numerose città dell’Umbria e dell’Italia in generale. / ENGLISH: The paper concerns the theme of luxury (with regard to clothing, dowries, banquets), which appeared primarily as a theological problem, and later as a problem related to the comune’s ideology of “good governance” and decus civitatis (dignity of the city). This phenomenon caused the production of abundant sumptuary laws, which may be considered the result of collaboration between the comune’s government, jurists and preachers, who were very active in the fifteenth century in many cities of Umbria and Italy in general.
