Abstract

Taxation was undoubtedly one of the most meaningful aspect through which we may delve into the dialectic nature of the power in the Middle Ages. A real concrete example has been offered by the Apostolic tithe, a fee which all the ecclesiastical institutions and the beneficiated clergymen had to pay to the Apostolic Chamber. Intent of my paper is to enhance our actual understanding of this tax as a research subject and to show the numerous chances of analysis that it offers in relation to the southern Italy society in its various articulation.
