Abstract
This contribution presents and discusses the characteristics associated with the metadata of each document of the MED.ITA-TXT textual knowledge base, which is one of the outcomes of the project “MEDITA – Medieval Latin Documentation and Digital Italo-Romance Lexicography. Integrated Resources for the New Historical and Etymological Lexicography.” The project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research within the framework of the PRIN 2022 programme, was promoted by the University of Naples Federico II, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the Opera del Vocabolario Italiano (OVI-CNR, Florence), and carried out between 2023 and 2026. The MED.ITA-TXT textual knowledge base consists of a corpus of more than 2,000 non-literary Latin texts produced in Italy between the eighth and the fourteenth centuries, the metadata associated with each document, and the digital infrastructure enabling their consultation. The presence of metadata relating to different aspects of the documents (such as diplomatic features and geographical and chronological localization) makes it possible to integrate linguistic analysis with data relevant to the socio-historical contextualization of the texts, from the perspective of historical sociolinguistics. Furthermore, the development of a complex metadata framework aimed to provide information useful for other fields of study, particularly historical and diplomatic research. Integrated Resources for the New Historical and Etymological Lexicography”.
