Abstract

[IT] Nel giugno 2025 si è appreso che durante i lavori di restauro di un edificio nell'antico quartiere medievale di Trani è stata scoperta un'iscrizione ebraica. L'epigrafe presenta un'elegante iscrizione in caratteri ebraici, è datata all'anno 4880 (1119/1120 d.C.) e può quindi essere considerata una delle testimonianze più antiche e significative della presenza ebraica nella Puglia medievale. Il testo, sebbene parzialmente conservato, permette di comprendere la funzione dell'epigrafe e di collocarla in un contesto sinagogale. A new Jewish epigraph from a synagogue in Trani In June 2025, knowledge was gained that a Hebrew inscription had been discovered during the restoration of a building in the ancient medieval quarter of Trani. The epigraph features an elegant inscription in Hebrew script; it is dated to the year 4880 (1119/1120 CE) and can, therefore, be considered one of the most ancient and significant testimonies of the Jewish presence in medieval Puglia.
