Abstract

[IT] Nella prima età moderna emerse nella cultura europea un fenomeno – successivamente definito con il nome di ebraistica cristiana – che intese applicare le tecniche filologiche nate per lo studio delle opere latine e greche, al testo ebraico della Bibbia e poi alle altre fonti della sua tradizione. Questo nuovo approccio cambiò profondamente il modo di pensare l’ebraismo, ampliando i confini all’interno dei quali fino a quel momento era stato compreso. Tra i protagonisti della prima fase ci fu il calabrese Agazio Guidacerio, il quale, prima a Roma e poi a Parigi, fu professore di ebraico alla Sapienzadi Roma e al Collège Royal di Parigi, contribuendo con il suo insegnamento e le sue opere a dare forma all’ebraistica europea del XVI secolo. / [EN] The Calabrian Agazio Guidacerio and the teaching of Hebrew in 16th century Europe In the early modern age, a phenomenon emerged in European culture ‒ later referred to as Christian Hebraistics ‒ that sought to apply the philological techniques born out of the study of Latin and Greek to the Hebrew text of the Bible and then to the other sources of its tradition. This new approach fundamentally changed thinking about Judaism and expanded the boundaries within which it had been understood until then. Among the protagonists of the first phase was the Calabrian scholar Agazio Guidacerio, professor of Hebrew first at the Sapienza in Rome and then at the Collège Royal in Paris, whose teaching and works contributed to shaping European Hebrew studies in the sixteenth century.
