Abstract

[IT] Ci sono pervenute numerose suppliche degli ebrei ai re aragonesi di Napoli nel XV secolo all’interno delle lettere spedite dalla Regia Camera della Sommaria, i cui registri sono stati la fonte principale delle ricerche di Ferorelli e Colafemmina. Il saggio presenta l’edizione critica di due rare suppliche pervenuteci in originale: esse furono presentate nel 1495-98 da Manasse, probabilmente un ebreo askenazita, e Josep, un medico ebreo siciliano da poco immigrato nel Regno. Manasse propose una riforma innovativa del regime fiscale delle comunità ebraiche. Josep, lamentando l’illegalità della sua detenzione in prigione, chiese al segretario regio di trasferire la sua causa ad un altro giudice. Entrambi mostrano di sapersi muovere all’interno dell’amministrazione regia e di saper utilizzare il linguaggio politico e giuridico degli ufficiali regi. Nonostante la situazione critica degli ebrei in quel periodo, essi interagivano abitualmente con le autorità cristiane per finalità politiche e questioni personali. Manasse judìo todesco and Josep medico ebreo: Jews, supplications, and revenue authorities in the Kingdom of Naples at the end of the 15th century Many petitions of the Jews to the Aragon Kings of Naples during the 15th century are included in letters sent by the Regia Camera della Sommaria, whose registers have been the most important sources used in the research of scholars such as Ferorelli and Colafemmina. The essay offers a critical edition of two rare original petitions presented around 1495-98 by Manasse, probably an Ashkenazi Jew, and Joseph, a Sicilian physician and recent immigrant to the Kingdom. Manasse proposed an innovative reform of the taxes on the Jewish communities. Complaining about his illegal detention, Joseph asked the Royal secretary to transfer his case to another judge. It emerges that both Jews were skilled in dealing with the Royal administration and were in control of the political and juridical language of the Royal officers.
