Abstract
A building supposedly belonged to the House of Chiaramonte (or Chiaromonte) in Sicily was kept for several centuries inside the volume of a larger building in the Kalsa district of Islamic foundation, in Palermo. The sudden detachment of the plaster and some stone elements at the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century made it possible to identify the traces of the façade of a fourteenth-century tower-house, characterized by a series of four windows with pointed arched elements and archivolts with rings of broken sticks, surmounted by a weft of interwoven bands of two-tone stone elements. The contribution retraces the study activities to identify the architectural cultures that coexist in the current conformation of the building and define the suited conservation strategy. | Un palazzo presumibilmente appartenuto al Casato dei Chiaramonte (o Chiaromonte) in Sicilia è stato custodito per alcuni secoli all’interno del volume edificato di un edificio nel quartiere della Kalsa, di fondazione islamica, a Palermo. L’improvviso distacco dell’intonaco e di alcuni elementi lapidei all’inizio degli anni ‘80 del XX secolo permettono di identificare le tracce della facciata di una casa-torre trecentesca, caratterizzata da una serie di quattro trifore con elementi a sesto acuto ed archivolti a ghiere di bastoncelli spezzati, sovrastata da una trama di archi intrecciati con la bicromia degli elementi lapidei. Il contributo ripercorre le attività di studio svolte per identificare le culture architettoniche che convivono nell’attuale conformazione del palazzo, giungendo fino alla definizione della migliore strategia di conservazione.
