Abstract
[IT] Tra le numerose traduzioni francesi medievali della Legenda aurea, solo quella di Jean de Vignay (1333-1348) passerà alla stampa nella versione revisionata dal domenicano Jean Batallier, pubblicata per la prima volta a Lione nel 1476 e poi più volte rieditata fino alla metà del XVI secolo. Parallelamente, le vite di alcuni santi estratte dal leggendario e stampate da editori specializzati nella produzione di pièces gothiques conoscono una circolazione indipendente come testi brevi sotto forma di opuscoletti di poche pagine. Oltre a presentarsi in una forma editoriale nuova per raggiungere un pubblico più vasto, le vite autonome mutano funzione e significato. Questo articolo fornisce una prima presentazione di questa produzione agiografica ancora poco esplorata soprattutto sotto l’aspetto testuale. Among the medieval French translations of the Legenda aurea, only that of Jean de Vignay (1333-1348) went to press in the version revised by the Dominican friar Jean Batallier. It was published for the first time in Lyon in 1476, and then re-edited several times until the middle of the sixteenth century. At the same time, some saints’ lives - extracted from the legendary and printed by publishers specialized in the production of pièces gothiques - were circulated independently as short texts in the form of pamphlets a few pages long. As well as presenting themselves in a new editorial form to reach a wider audience, the autonomous lives changed their function and meaning. This article provides a first introduction to this hagiographic production which is still largely unexplored, especially from a textual perspective.
