Abstract
[EN] The essay investigates the relationship between notaries and ecclesiastical institutions, namely bishops and catherdal chapter. This work analises the case study of Bergamo in late Middle Ages, comparing this with the existing historiography. The paper is completed by a prosopographical appendix. The analysis is focused on the role of notaries within the Episcopal bureaucracy, but also in their personal contribution to the Episcopal policy.A section is dedicated to the question of notaries-clerics, a topic that still necessitates study and reflection.
