Abstract
[EN] This paper analyzes the epitaph of the Neapolitan nobleman Malizia Carafa, who died in 1438 and was buried in the church of San Domenico. However, during the Seventies of 15th, Malizia’s tomb was amply recast by his family (first of all by his son Diomede, count of Maddaloni and right-hand man of the king Ferdinand I of Aragon), who procured to upgrade it to the esteem and power of the Carafas in the Aragonese Naples. Through the study of the epigraphic text the cultural context, where one of the most important Neapolitan noble families was inserted, is taken shape. Furthermore it is verified whether there has been the reception of graphic models of recovery of the epigraphic characters, who were developed in other geographic context, or, instead, whether the customer’s antiquarian taste promoted a personal interpretation, as it were, of the epigraphic standard. Lastly the thematic subdivision of the celebrative speech encouraged by the customer himself and the reference cultural models are analyzed.
