Abstract

[IT] Lo studio presenta una analisi delle epistolae che Pier Damiani ha composto negli anni della maturità, fra il 1062 e il 1072, per dimostrare come, nonostante alcune esternazioni antifilosofiche e anticulturali, esse mostrino – al pari delle lettere scritte negli anni precedenti – un ampio dispiego di strutture provenienti dalle arti del trivium (in particolare topoi e sillogismi). In generale, Pier Damiani sembra dunque aderire al principio agostiniano dell’usus iustus della cultura profana, ed è più che altro preoccupato dal rischio che i monaci possano anteporre il sapere del secolo ai loro interessi spirituali. [EN] This study offers an analysis of the epistolae that Peter Damian composed in his mature years, between 1062 and 1072, to demonstrate how, despite some anti-philosophical and anti-cultural elements, they show – as the letters written in the previous years do– a broad deployment of structures of the arts of the trivium (in particular topoi and syllogisms). In general, Peter Damian thus seems to adhere to the Augustinian principle of the usus iustus of profane culture, and he is concerned by the risk that the monks could prefer the profane knowledge to their spiritual interests.
