Abstract
[EN] The essay offers an overview of the most recent and innovative research on the history of the ar-istocracy and the development of local powers in the Kingdom of Italy between the 10th and 12th centuries. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between aristocracies and public power, the importance of the distribution of fiscal assets, family structures, the different modes and intensities of affirmation of territorial lordships, and, finally, a critical analysis of the most recent hypotheses on the role of lordship in stimulating economic growth in the central centu-ries of the Middle Ages. / [IT] Il saggio propone una panoramica delle più recenti e innovative acquisizioni della ricerca sulla storia dell’aristocrazia del regno italico e lo sviluppo di poteri locali tra X e XII secolo. Particolare attenzione è dedicata al rapporto tra aristocrazie e potere pubblico, all’importanza della distribuzione dei beni fiscali, alle strutture familiari, alle differenti modalità e intensità di affermazione delle signorie territoriali e infine a un’analisi critica delle ipotesi più attuali sul ruolo svolto dai prelievi signorili nell’incentivare la crescita economica nei secoli centrali del Medioevo.
