Abstract

ITALIANO: L’archeologia centro- e nord-europea ha dimostrato che le popolazioni del barbaricum non hanno assistito passivamente alla crescita e al declino delle civiltà mediterranee, ma svilupparono strategie proprie per il controllo e lo sfruttamento delle risorse naturali, costruendo inoltre la propria identità etnica e culturale. Questo contributo vuole dimostrare come l’integrazione tra differenti patrimoni di culture materiali originò un nuovo ordine economico e sociale tra V e VII secolo. / ENGLISH: The archaeology of Central and Northern Europe has shown that the societies of the barbaricum did not wait in a passive way for the rise and decline of the classical civilizations of Mediterranean origin. On the contrary they developed their own strategies for exploiting and controlling natural resources, building their own ethnic and cultural identity. The thesis of this article is that the integration of different patrimonies of material cultures gave birth to a new economic and social order between AD 5th and 7 th century.
