Abstract

We can follow the academic career of Gioacchino Volpe through the story of hisrecruitment, from the first test, that dates back to 1899 to the achievement of the titleof professor. Besides, we investigate the development of his relationship and then thebreakdown with his master, Amedeo Crivellucci, as well as with his friend GaetanoSalvemini, who was his competitor on a couple of occasions. The research was carriedout in the light of disagreements derived from their changing relationships. Atthe same time, we investigate the consequences of these connections, once marred, onthe end of the review «Studi storici» and on the first steps of the emerging «NuovaRivista Storica».
