Abstract
The sicilian author, Tommaso Chaula, wrote his Gestorum per Alfonsum Aragonum et Sicilie regem libri quinque at the beginning of the fifteenth century during that humanistic season that outlined a new way of understanding history: in the humanists’ works in fact began to appear the constant presence of a desire to celebrate the facts, which, thanks to a continuous application of rhetorical artifices, would have offered an ethical vision of history without neglecting the real reconstruction of the facts. The Gestorum libri are also part of the historiographical production dedicated to Alfonso V of Aragon, king of Naples from 1442 to 1458, who was remembered for his great magnanimity. With the textual analysis of some narrative passages of the work, it will be intended to show above all the power of historiographical discourse and therefore the power of the historiographer who through an artificial arrangement of words constantly pursues the attempt to prove the virtuous nature of Alfonso.
