Abstract

The Chronicon is written in Latin by Francesco Pipino, a Dominican monk from Bologna, who lived between the second half of the XIII and the first part of the XIV century. The chronicle is composed of XXXI books and the story covers a range of time which goes from 754 to 1317, but with the addition of information that goes as far as 1322. The chronicle is preserved with the only manuscript α.X.1.5 in the Biblioteca Estense at Modena. This paper aims to analyse the reconstrution of Henry VI’s history, by focusing on Pipino’s method in writing his chronicle and on the complex interlacement of various sources.
